Nirojan Kaneswaralingam, a young Tamil youth tragically passed away this weekend in a car accident. Niro was currently attending York University, where he was pursuing his Licensed Registered Nurse designation. We hope that his family and friends are given the strength to overcome this difficult time, and will continue to seek comfort in their memories of Niro. |

Pongu Thamil will occur this Saturday, October 29 at 3:00 at Queen’s Park, Toronto. Through this event, Tamil Canadians will unite together and demand for the rights and political aspirations of the Tamil people. Tamil youth across Toronto have been highly supportive and understanding for the need for a strong voice, and have created awareness materials in which they urge other youth to take part in advocating for the rights of the Tamil people, and showing solidarity, and community through unity. |

By: Janarthan Sadacharalingam I had the honour of being the first Tamil Canadian to participate at the Canadian Soccer Association’s 2011 National Challenge Cup. This prestigious tournament dates back to 1913 and knowing I’m the first Tamil to participate in the men’s tournament and represent Ontario at the men’s level, I felt so much pride. The six day tournament (Oct. 5 to Oct. 10) was held in Brossard (South Montreal), Quebec, and I had to bring back something positive to those that supported me in getting here and to our Tamil community. |

Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance is proud to announce that the champions of CTYA’s Thaalam 2011, York/Seneca Huskies, will be representing Canada at Aadukalam 2011, an International Dance Competition hosted by the Tamil Youth Network of Germany under the Global Tamil Youth League. Dance teams representing Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Switzerland and United Kingdom will be participating in this highly anticipated dance competition on Saturday, October 22, 2011 in Munich, Germany. |

A fairly popular program for Teens is coming back to the Lillian Smith Branch, the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program. The program helps young people develop the communication and leadership skills they need to be successful adults. It runs over 8 weeks on Saturday mornings at 10am, starting October 2nd. It is co-sponsed by the Toronto Public Library and District 60 of Toastmasters International. |
