Top Talents 2011 [Recap]

Last Sunday September 18th 2011 CTYA held their second annual Top Talents Award Gala at Claireport Banquet and Convention Centre.  The event was hosted to recognize talented individual youth in the community who have excellent achievement in the fields; Academics, Arts, Athletics and Achievements. Within these four categories, each one was further subdivided into specialized Awards. Awards were handed out accordingly to deserving applicants.

The night’s events embarked at 7pm, starting off with a Welcome dance, Tamil and Canadian National Anthem, a moment of silence, and a welcome speech the nights festivities began. Awards were then awarded. Top Talents concluded with the opening of the buffet table, signalling the end of a very successful and proud night for Tamil youth.

Top Talents is about investing in the youth. Many of you invest in a variety of things; your house is an investment, your business or businesses are investments. When one invests he/she expends money with the expectation of achieving a profit or material result. It is spending that time, effort, and energy with the expectation of a worthwhile result. This idea of expenditure is very similar to what Top Talents is trying to achieve with youth; spending time, effort, and energy so they become established in their talents and careers.

Top Talents was truly an essential event that the Tamil community needs to host on an annual basis. In a society where the community faces many negative comments, it is important to show society there far more positive contributions. Top Talents is about celebrating and rejoicing the ability to push yourselves to be your ultimate best. Many of the youth nominees that were present at Top Talents attended many classes and programs, perfecting their art; spending long hours studying, dancing or volunteering. It was all that extra drive, perseverance, and ambition one must possess in order to achieve goals and accomplishments.  These nominees and winners set a new tone for success and accomplishments, and most importantly they motivate others to have the confidence to step up and tackle their dreams and pursue their passions. Hosting award gala’s like these can only guarantee that one day in the future we will have our very first Canadian Tamil athlete, artist, or entrepreneur who will be recognized in a more national and international scale.

Biography’s on nominees, winners, and judges will be posted in on CTYA’s blog in the following days to come. Photo’s from the event are also available on DEV’s and Ninaivukal’s websites.
