Let’s just take this minute to remember an important part of all Tamils lives. The May Massacre was an important event that scarred many. At the end of May 2009 this occurred, the Sri Lankan government attacked the innocent Tamils in Mulivaikal with bombs and weapons.  Most people lost someone, part of their life they knew or lived with. It is devastating to realize that many innocent teenagers, adults, disabled people, elderly people and babies were killed during this time in the act of ‘fighting terrorism’. It is something we should all look back at and mark. Just remember that the second before this attack occurred, many children were laughing and playing. The next second, those children were running for their lives.

Take a minute to remember the lives of those who perished in May Massacre 2009. The memories still resonate strongly within the Tamil community when it comes to those who don’t know what happened to their loved ones, to those who suffer from not getting justice, and to those who live in constant fear.

May Massacre scarred many people and is vividly remembered by many. The Sri Lankan government orchestrated attacks on innocent Tamils in Mulivaikal with clusters bombs, chemical use, and weapons of mass destruction.

Many people have lost someone who was part of their life whom they knew or lived with. It is devastating to realize that many innocent children, teens, adults, disabled people, and elderly people were killed during this time that the Sri Lankan government declared as a “war on terrorism”.

Remember that seconds before these attacks occur, children ran around carefree of their surrounding environment. The next second, these children are running for their lives and experiencing psychological distress that most of us can never imagine.

The month of May is significant to the Tamil community around the world. We all join hands to mourn the lives lost during the height of the war. The struggle for justice is a continuing fight and I urge all youth to take part in it.
