To the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance,

As old as human expression, dance has long been a part of our celebrations and rituals. We have communicated our stories across generations, and voiced our emotions to one another through dance. Whether it is the thaalam of one culture or the rhythm of another, we can share with each other our histories and experiences.

I am proud of Ontario’s diversity, and fully support the artistic expression of all our cultural communities. Over my 20 years as an MPP, the Tamil community has grown to become one of the city’s largest cultural groups. Tamil Canadians are now leaders in many fields, including literature, athletics, media and charities.

Arts and culture are an important part of our city. The Thaalam Dance competition not only brings together Tamil youth from across the province, but also celebrates the contribution of the Tamil language and heritage within our neighbourhoods. It also continues the work of the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance, ensuring the promotion of Tamil culture through arts, education, athletics and advocacy.

Thank you for your efforts in organizing the Thalaam Dance Competition. I am certain it will exceed all expectations.

Sincerely,

Rosario Marchese

MPP, Trinity-Spadina
