CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL PARTICIPANTS AND OPEN MEN’S CHAMPIONS SEAWAVES F.C.!!
An exciting tournament which provided many thrilling games, came to an end the past Saturday. The Athletics Council of Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance in partnership with Canadian Tamil Sports Association (CTSA) hosted the 3rd Annual Tamileelam Challenge Cup. On a beautiful sunny day, many teams were vying for the prestigious cup and the chance to be champions.
The under 16 tournament provided an exciting final as Scarborough Rangers F.C. played against Jarvis S.C. The game was pushed to penalty shoot out as it was a stalemate in regular time. In a nerve racking penalty shoot out, Scarborough Rangers came out on top and took home the Under 16 Tamileelam Challenge Cup.
On the men’s side, the games were exciting to say the least. The semi finals provided the confident bunch Scarborough Rangers against the Cinderella team of 11 Stars Football Club, who defeated last year’s runner up E.N.A. Sports Club in the quarter finals. The game was close as Scarborough Rangers defeated 11 Stars 1-0. In the other semi’s, last year’s champions Jarvis Sports Club were up against Seawaves F.C. In the superb match, Seawaves beat Jarvis 2-1. The game saw Jarvis go up on a penalty shot in the first half, with Seawaves responding with two goals in the second half.
The finals saw a great match between Scarborough Rangers and Seawaves F.C., as both teams were eager to win their first Tamileelam Challenge Cup. Two goals were scored in the first half as Seawaves got the first goal but Scarborugh Rangers responded with the second goal of the game. The second half was entertaining as both teams could not capitalize on their chances. Almost near the end of the game Seawaves got their break as they scored on a header to the top corner off the right post to win the game. The final score was 2-1 and Cup was going to Seawaves F.C.
Great sportsmanship was displayed at the end of the game as both teams shook hands and congratulatory comments were given to each other from both teams.
