Reflections from a Canadian Forces Officer, Brevo Fernando, OCdtBy Editor - November 11th, 2011 |

Written By: Brevo Fernando, OCdt I joined the Air Cadet program shortly after turning 12, with my mom forcing me to. Although I always liked the army and all those action movies about it, I never really knew much about the Air Cadet program. It was a completely new world when I joined. For the first couple of months, I had no intention of staying in the program. Everyone was new, the way things had to be done was new. As a kid, nothing is worse than something new. Regardless, I had no choice; I had to go every week as I had committed to it. As I continued in the program, it slowly began to sink into me. “Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the First World War (1914-1918), the Second World War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (1950-1953), as well as those who have served since then. More than 1,500,000 Canadians have served our country in this way, and more than 100,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we may live in peace (Veterans Affairs Canada). |

His hard-work, determination, commitment and passion for science and medicine has unquestionably contributed to his success. I hope, like him, other Tamil young really examine their passions, talents, and pursue their dreams. Abicumaran, really, has been an inspiration to us all, of what we can achieve. |
