Council of Agencies Serving South Asians Volunteer Callout

A message from CAASA (The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians). Please contact CASSA directly if interested in volunteering:

The Council of Agencies Serving South Asians, CASSA, is launching a new two year project titled “Brown Canada” to document and celebrate the histories of various South Asian communities in Canada during the 20th century. This project will be documenting our struggles, our accomplishments, our milestones, our growth and our pain.

As the project focuses on the diverse South Asian communities in Canada during the 20th century, the support of various communities is vital to make this initiative a success.

As part of the documentation process, CASSA is reaching out to various communities within the South Asian communities including but not limited to Sikh Canadians, Pakistani Canadians, Bangladeshi Canadians, Indo-Caribbean Canadians and Tamil Canadians.

We have a number of volunteer positions that have been created to reach out to these diverse communities. In my role as outreach and research coordinator for Tamil Canadian community, I am reaching out to you to get your participation and engagement in the project.

Tamils began to arrive in Canada as early as the early part of 20th century. Since then, Tamils have faced many struggles but have prospered to great levels. It is vital for us to document our struggles, successes and achievements in Canada and to showcase this to the broader community.

In order to document all this important information, we require the hard work and dedication of a team of volunteers.

If you…

  • Are interested in learning about the history of the Tamils in Canada
  • Are enthusiastic about teaching others about this history
  • Have an interes in arts, media, research and writing

….then, this opportunity is for you!

For more information about the Brown Canada project or to volunteer, contact me at krishanthy@cassa.on.ca.

If you are interested in any other South Asian communities in Canada, please feel free to contact me as well. I will be sure to connect you with the appropriate person at CASSA.
