Call for Proposals

“Just as energy is the basis of life itself, and ideas as the source of innovation, so is innovation the vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress.”
➢    Theodore Levitt

Many parts of Tamileelam have been ruined and are lagging in terms of physical, economic, medical and social development due to the aftermath of the war.  In order to ensure the growth and success of the nation and its people, there exists a strong need and responsibility to rebuild and develop this land via innovative and sustainable initiatives.

The Tamil Nation Development (TND) council of Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) is currently accepting proposals and project ideas for developmental initiatives for the future needs of Tamileelam. The growth of a nation depends on its foundation. The foundation laid can ultimately determine whether a nation would flourish or breakdown.   Hence, we must begin working towards collecting and archiving now, so that when the opportunity to implement such projects in an independent Tamileelam arises, we would be well equipped to execute the best ideas in a cost-effective, efficient and timely manner.  Preparation, research, and feedback are key factors required from the Tamil diaspora and the larger international community so as to ensure that rebuilding efforts are met with success when implementation is possible in Tamileelam.

Development projects for Tamileelam can be from the following areas, but are not limited to:
·         Business Development / Entrepreneurship
·         Community development
·         Education Systems
·         Environmental Protection Plans
·         Engineering (Aerospace / Robotics)
·         Health  (Medical / Mental / Children)
·         Transportation Systems
·         Information Technology

Development projects for within Canada:
·         Increasing the usage of Tamil language among youth
·         Tamil language learning system for children
·         Tamil youth recreation / innovation centre

Here are some examples of project ideas:
·        Water purification and sanitization (engineering);
·         Rehabilitation and recovery for concurrent disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (mental health);
·         Support kits for snake bites in rural areas (medical health);
·         Software programs for Library facilities (technology).

While the main focus of this project is to look at various proposals to rebuild Tamileelam in the near future, this is also a venue whereby innovative ideas for the betterment of other similar developing nations can be explored. Moreover, this initiative fosters an avenue for the collaboration of various individual expertises to come together in an attempt to create and pursue sustainable change.
Submissions of commendable proposals and project ideas will be showcased at an exposition in the spring of 2012. Undergraduate students, graduate students, and post graduate students interested in showcasing their thesis papers related to community development are also highly encouraged to submit their work and network with other professionals. Showcasing business plans and project ideas will enable students to not only positively contribute in rebuilding their nation, but it will also provide invaluable experience in project management, leadership, and innovation. These projects can be used towards a student’s portfolio in demonstrating the transition of a vision into a work plan, or business plan.  Monetary prizes will be awarded to the best business plans by a panel of judges.
Registration details will be available on CTYA’s website in the upcoming weeks.  CTYA’s Tamil Nation Development Council is looking forward to inspirational and innovative ideas that will be cultivated as a result of this initiative, and we highly encourage you to put your creativity to use for the betterment of Tamileelam.

Questions, comments and submissions can be directed to tamilnation@ctya.org.

The Tamil Nation Development council aims to make significant efforts to rebuild and develop Tamileelam.  This council hopes to implement projects, and provide support to re-establish educational facilities, hospitals, homes and other infrastructures in collaboration with community partners, NGOs and U.N agencies.
