How Will You Measure Your Life? (Clayton M. Christensen)

Unlike other books that give you the answers, this book forces you to examine your life and ask yourself the important questions about your life, goals, vision, etc. Christensen overcome cancer, and during this time, he became more cognizant of his life, and of how he will measure his life. He talks about careers satisfaction, relationships, and integrity using the lessons from businesses around the world. How will you measure your life?

The Alchemist (Paul Coelho)

A story about Santiago, a shepherd boy, who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along his journey, he meets people who guide him, yet  no one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to overcome the obstacles along the way and reach his destiny. This is a story of the transformation power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts, and keep continuing and moving forward.

Tuesdays With Morrie (Mitch Albom)

Amazing book, it has a lot of useful life lessons, but it’s also written like a story. There’s a movie based on this book too. A mentor is someone who provides a unique value to our lives. They offer wisdom that is so powerful, and offer support that understands. This is the story of Mitch Albom, and his mentor, Morrie Schwartz, his college professor. Through life, Mitch gets caught up in everyday struggles of life, that he feels his life has lost meaning. For 20 years, he has not met his mentor, but at the final stages of his professors life, Mitch is given the lasting best gift of his life, the answers to life’s biggest questions through weekly Tuesday visits. This book is practical, and forces you to examine your own life, and determine what it important to you.

The Last Lecture (Randy Pausch)

Professor and computer scientist at Carnegie Mellon, Randy Pausch who knows he’s dying writes a book of wisdom to his kids before he dies. A beautiful book of wisdom and life lessons. It’s about seizing the day, and overcoming obstacles and fighting for your dreams, and is a true story and testament he left for his children. This is the wisdom he wanted his children to know since he would never have the chance to tell them himself.  This story is not about dying, but it is about living, and about overcoming your dreams, enabling the dreams of others, and seizing the day.

The Happiness Project (Gretchin Rubin)

This is kind of useful for everyday ways to make your life better and happier, so each month she works on one thing at a time, like being more grateful, setting goals, etc. It’s the journey of one women to make her life happier in little ways everyday. The book was initially a blog, and was later turned into a book. She is coming out with a new book later this month, Happier at Home.

The Magic (Rhonda Byrne)

The message of The Magic is simple. You attract what you think. Your thoughts determine your actions, so think positive! Through daily exercises, The Magic helps us reclaim positivity in your life, and attract good things. While the teaching may seem like common sense, a reminder to stay positive always helps.
