Press Release: Canadian Tamil Film Festival – 2011

Canadian Tamil Film Festival – 2011

December 10, 2010
Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA), will be holding its first Canadian Tamil Film Festival (CTFF) on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the Markham Theatre for Performing Arts. This event, being coordinated by CTYA’s Arts and Culture Council has been acknowledged by many members of the Tamil and non-Tamil community.

CTFF will be one of the events occurring as part of the Tamil Heritage Month in January 2011.  The arts, including film are vital in preserving and highlighting any given culture.  Through CTFF, we strive to showcase our Tamil heritage and culture as well as celebrate the achievements of Tamil Canadians in Media and Film Arts.

International and Canadian submissions for the film festival will be accepted until January 09, 2011. Individuals sharing an interest in the film industry or wanting to educate the public through documentaries are welcome to submit short films, documentaries, and/or music videos. All submissions will be evaluated by qualified judges, and awards will be presented in various categories on the day of the Festival.

CTFF will be an annual event held by Arts and Culture Council of CTYA to celebrate and nurture the filmmakers within Canadian Tamil community. The Festival provides film artists with an avenue to introduce themselves to the broader Canadian society. Through this initiative, we also aspire to promote film arts among our youth.
