“Dad”

Written by: Claudia Louis

You look at her and you see everything you wanted
She is the essence, that leads your life
My sister
I watch your admiring eyes
Your tumultuous laughter ringing in the air,
Even when her scent is long gone
Have I always been this disappointing to you?
A presence you simply endure
The same blood runs through her veins as mine
We have the same smile
Yet how can one of us bring repulse to your heart
While the other is embraced
You look at me, with pity
Hatred is much easier to endure than your pity, father.
Won’t you love me too or does your heart only belong to one
Don’t step back at my words
We both know the truth
Your love for her is endless, while your love for me is simple
I look at you with admiring eyes
Smile at you, offering the world
Yet I am cast into silence
Because the truth is
My love for her, leaves me helpless too
Born the eldest, living the life of second best
Irony rooted in my veins
Running from my eyes
Hoping you will love me again.
