Historic "Vanni Street" Sign Unveiled in Markham!

Today morning, Councillor Logan Kanapathi and Mayor Frank Scarpitti unveiled the sign for “Vanni Street” in the City of Markham. Vanni Street will be located at the site located on 14th Ave, between Middlefield Rd and Markham Rd. In the coming years, a community center will also be built in the nearby vicinity, making Vanni Street being placed in an important location.

This Calls for A Boycott!

As the committee goes ahead and gives a thumbs up to this decision of approving Sri Lanka as the place for the 2013 CHOGM to be held, they are completely ignoring the values and principles previously agreed upon. It is some what hypocritical to grant credibility to a country who has corrupted the system developed by the Commonwealth, to be hosting their meetings itself in the future. In doing so, the committee tears apart and breaks the vows that they have promised to uphold.

Thazhumbakam Launches Mobile Exhibitions for May 2013!

Thazhumbakam (Tamil Genocide Memorial Museum) will be launching its mobile exhibitions in May 2013. These exhibitions will be aimed at educating the general public of the crimes against humanity inflicted upon the Tamil people during May 2009, as part of the ongoing structural genocide perpetrated by the successive Sri Lankan governments. Exhibits will be held in various locations in Canada throughout the month of May as an initial stage of Thazhumbakam.

CanTYD's Awards of Excellence 2013 Scholarship Applications Now Available

Award categories include Academics, Athletics, Arts, Overall Achievement, Outstanding Community Contribution and Most Improved Student. Scholarships of up to $1000 will be awarded to Grade 12 students. Award winners will be recognized at CanTYD’s Awards of Excellence gala. The deadline for applications is June 30.
