The following films and documentaries will be screened at the Canadian Tamil Film Festival (CTFF), a short synopsis is provided for each entry.  

3 Iravu 4 pagal (23.00) 

Film Details: A film by I.V. Jana 

Short Synopsis: This film explores the continuous struggles of a man who tirelessly tries to unite with his family member.  

Avalin Thurogam (30.00)    

Film Details: A Film by K.S. Jena; Eelam Pictures 

Short Synopsis: Avalin Thurogam depicts the physical and emotional conflicts and vulnerabilities of a young man as his relationship is tested. 

Can I have a Dream (9.00) 

Film Details: A Film by TamiliamSubas 

Short Synopsis “I have a dream” said Martin Luther King Jr. a few decades ago.  “Can I have a dream?” asks a war-affected girl in the modern world.  The story of Can I have a Dream shows not only a dream of a small girl, but also the pain and dreams of 6 million children. 

Erithazhalparavaigal (22.00) 

Film Details: A Film by Venthan 

Short Synopsis: Erithazhalparavaigal is a film that portrays the real life circumstances of fisherman in Tamil Nadu. It illuminates the implications of the Sri Lankan Navy’s violence against the people of Tamil Nadu.  

Inniyaval 

Film Details: A film by I. Ramanan 

Short Synopsis: Inniyaval speaks of a young woman’s desires towards her marriage life. 

 Magan (15.00)
Film Details: A Film by T Rajeev 

Short Synopsis: We are all faced with many paths and choices in life; Magan entertainingly exemplifies how parents can be a factor for their children choosing the wrong path.  

 Nanba (8.20)
Film Details: L .V. Prasad Film; TV Academy  

Short Synopsis: Nanba is the story of an exciting challenge between competitive friends and students, Sandeep and Santhos. 

Nadantha Kathai (20.57) 

Film Details: A Film by Arul Sankar 

Short Synopsis: Taking place in a society highly divided by caste, Nadantha Kathai follows the struggle of a young man’s whose dream is to walk wearing a pair of shoes despite his looked down upon caste. 

Nandriamma (23.00) 

Film Details: A Film by Anujana Vathanan 

Short Synopsis: Nandriamma presents the story of a deep relationship between a father and a mother before the birth of their child – in a unique way, the story has been told from the child’s perspective. 

Noir et Blanc (Black and White) 

Film Details: A film by Sritharan Thayalan 

Short Synopsis: Noir et Blanc illustrates the interaction between a hat seller and a blind man.  

Oli Varum Varayil (5.11)
Film Details: L.V. Prasad Film
Short Synopsis: Oli Varum Varayil tells the story of a prisoner whose only plea is to meet his disheartened son once before he is hanged for a previous crime committed. 

Poochedi (7.25)
Film Details: L.V. Prasad Film; TV Academy 

Short Synopsis: Poochedi unravels the complexities of the love between Meera and Raghu, whose marriage is quickly deteriorating as Meera is burdened with unattended emotions and heavy responsibilities. 

Remembering 6 years – Tsunami 2004 (30.00) 

Film Details: A Documentary by TYO-Canada Media 

Short Synopsis: This documentary is the reflection of two young people who witnessed the 2004 Tsunami in Tamileelam (North and East part of current Sri Lanka).  After 6 years they still remember the atrocities the nature has caused upon the people that were fighting for their independence from oppressive Sri Lankan governments. 

Rocks Unturned, Words Unspoken (9.00)
Film Details: A Film by Sinthubairavy Sathananthan 

Short Synopsis: Chemistry is one thing that can either hold two elements together or have them depart from each other. Rocks Unturned, Words Unspoken is the story of Aathirai who receives positive subliminal messages on the seashore as she reflects on her negative dispute with Siva. 

Sarugu (3.00)
Film Details: A Film by Anujana Vathanan 

Short Synopsis: Sarugu unveils the story of an elderly woman who is abandoned by her wealthy son. 

TheeraIrul (11.00) 

Film Details: A film by Sathapranavan 

Short Synopsis: TheeraIrul portrays the dark sides of French Tamil community members and the problems they face in their daily lives.  

Vanni Mouse (10.00) 

Film Details: A Film by TamiliamSubas 

Short Synopsis: Vanni Mouse is a short film following the journey of two inseparable mice, who unfortunately end up in an internment camp (Manik Farm) located in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. These two mice witness the tragedy of many innocent civilians behind the barbed wires, which remains as unspoken truth.  Their quest is to escape the terrifying environment where Tamils are imprisoned and tortured by the Sri Lankan government. 

 Vilayattu 

Film Details:  A film by Vishwa 

Short Synopsis: Vilayattu illustrates the lives of two friends in a foreign country and highlights how small incidents can determine life and death situations. 

Wind (30.00) 

Film Details: A Stone Bench Production 

Short Synopsis: Wind is about a day in the life of a policeman in Tamil Nadu who is posted in a forsaken place to watch over the dead body of a man who has committed suicide.  As he waits for the backup to arrive, a strange camaraderie develops between the policeman and the dead man bridging the gap between past and present, life and death. 

Sunday: 

There will be a special screening of Films, 1999 and 9 Dollars & 50 Cents, at the big Screen (Markham Theatre) on Sunday, January 23rd at 2pm. Entrance will be free. Award Ceremony will be held at 6:15.
