I thought it was impossible to feel another’s pain and suffering, or at least understand a portion of it. But Prem Gopal’s Vali Sumantha Mann has made me question this thought. I am sure I was not alone in being overcome by emotions just by watching the talented dancers. Every step and every expression reminded us of the plight of our people. The injuries, the deaths, the rapes…each and every one of them sickening us. Through dance, the performers reminded us of the many images and videos which circulated the world providing the only account of the atrocities being committed on a war-torn island.
On the whole, Vali Sumantha Mann was a well organized and a much needed show to remind our community of the importance of unity and that the real spotlight should fall on those who have been victimized.
A huge congratulations to the entire troupe for the well-choreographed event and hope to see many more events of this nature in the near future.
