Teamwork Tips

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”

Groupwork is inevitable, both in school and in the workforce. These are the basic ingredients for successful teamwork.

Communication: Open communication is important in creating a good team. It allows members of the team to articulate their feelings, express their plans, share their ideas, and understand each other’s viewpoints

Cooperation: Cooperation among team members is the artery of successful teamwork. Group members need to put aside differences, and work together towards their common goal. Respecting members and cooperating with members makes the work environment much for pleasant.

Conflict Resolution: When many individuals come together, there is bound to be differences of opinions on certain issues because everyone comes from a different background and have had different experiences. In terms of finding a common solution, everyone is required to compromise and look at what is best for the team. It is important to acknowledge that there will be differences, but to work past them. Sometimes, it’s okay to agree to disagree.

Leadership: One of the most important aspects of effective teamwork is effective leadership. This means that the team leader should have the skills to create and maintain a working culture that is positive.  Group members also need to take upon leadership roles and work towards a common goal. Members need to trust and support team leaders decisions. Effective leaders help cultivate an environment where members can contribute their ideas and suggestions.

Setting Goals: Goal setting allows for measuring targets and reaching targets. By setting goals, you also create a work plan that makes it easier to assign roles. Goal setting also provides a sense of accomplishment for the group, and helps keeps the group focused and on task in a timely manner.
