There are many places to find information about prospective employers and companies. One reliable source is Hoover’s Online at www.hooversonline.com. Hoover’s is a widely respected service that provides detailed information on over 50,000 public and private companies. Dunn & Bradstreet, www.dnb.com, is another excellent resource that provides information on public and private companies by size, location, and industry.
It is generally easier to find information about publicly owned companies than privately owned ones. To find out whether a company is a subsidiary of a larger parent organization, is privately owned, or is foreign owned, look at the Directory of Corporation Affiliations by National Register Publishing. Other good sources of information are America’s Corporate Families by Dun & Bradstreet, Standard and Poor’s Register of Corporations, Directors, and Executives, Volume 3, and Who Owns Whom: North American Edition by Dun & Bradstreet. To find information about small, local, or regional companies, check to see whether the company has a website or inquire about the company at your local chamber of commerce.
