Cycle

Written By: Tharchini Vall

Phases disguising life as you knew it
Minds and hearts so different
Almost as though time just raises more questions than answers
But that wasn’t supposed to happen
Was it not supposed to be the other way around?
Fuelling yourself with energy in the form of questions
Because life depended on preparation
And questions would yield answers

Those children who grew up to become adults
Some used to be so weak, so withdrawn
The kids who barely spoke to anyone
Not cool enough? Maybe
Too shy, too boring, too dumb, too weird
But you never knew
The visions seen behind those eyes
The words heard behind closed doors
Abuse, disgrace, mistake
Suddenly, it makes sense

Strength came in the form of guidance
Something you never considered
Answers to everything, or so it seemed
Disregarding hurdles and fears
Because everything would be okay
Struggles and complications
You weren’t supposed to know
Your superstars and role models
Built by broken dreams and fallen heroes
Polished and well-presented
Because they were supposed to be

Misconceptions and ideas
About what was, what is, and what could be
Parents so steady and firm
But they’ve got stories
Who would have thought?
People you’ve known your entire life
You really don’t know very well
You take what you see and what you hear
Building an image of histories and decisions

Starting off an infant
Struggling to see and learning to speak
Falling down before you get yourself back up
A choice, like everything else
Accept defeat or challenge it because it’s not an option
But you see, it’s a little ironic
We start off and end up in the same place
And though the hand that we’re dealt with matters,
Nothing is stable
The watch that guides our daily lives remains to be the perfect testament

Newborn to old-aged
Teaching timeless lessons, effortlessly
Learning within their presence
Circle of life, really
It’s never the destination
It’s the journey
Ordinary people
In an extraordinary world
