Thulirkal: Top Talents Engineering Winner, Aravinthan Ahileswaran!

The recipient for CTYA’s Engineering Award is a 4th Year Management Engineering student at the University of Waterloo who is very passionate about working within the construction field. His interests first began when he worked at construction sites during high school. Now as a university student, he has utilized his coop work terms at reconstruction sites at Bridgepoint Hospital, and various companies like PCL Constrcutors, McNally International & Coreydale Contracting to better his skills and knowledge.

Nithy Kanesh, a Canadian Tamil Art Student is taking part in an art competition, “So you want to be an artist 2013”. In order to win, he needs votes. Currently, he is at 341 votes. Nithy is an aspiring artist and graphic designer, and is hoping to pursue arts. Renishaki Kamal is an enthusiastic and passionate individual at the University of Waterloo. Born and raised in Canada, she values her ethnicity and cultures and educates those around her about traditions and Tamil history! She’s usually easy to find in crowds as her pottu is her trademark. She has been actively involved in Waterloo, where she served as a First Year Representative to a VP Social Commisioner and also VP – Academic. this coming year, she will serve as President of the Student Union for the Faculty of Arts. She also currently serves as Arts Undergraduate Student Senator at University of Waterloo.

It is important to maintain the Tamil culture in Canada, especially when it is so easy to assimilate wholly into Western culture. The student must have the ability to participate in extracurricular activities while maintaining strong academic results.

Jessica Thyriar is a student at York University studying Criminology She has been a very active student in the community. Jessica served as VP-Events for Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance in the previous year. This year in March she was elected to represent 55,000 students at York University as the President of the York Federation of Students.
