And I Can Try

Written By: Jonathan Uthayakumar & Editing By: Riegie Godwin

And I can try to be wise, I can try to be grown
I can try to have faith, I can try to be good
but I can’t come to terms with my inner self as I should
I will make your world paradise
for every time I smile, you’ll smile twice
that’s a promise, that I will make to my wife
and now I’m making it to you

I let life slip away at my finger tips
seeking refuge from cutting slits
liquid life rolling down my skin
carcinogens appearing dark red mixed with gin
substance abuse, a part of my refuge
but it wont be a part of yours
you wont see stress as I have
you wont feel pain for emotions
no remorse, no regrets
only moving forward

Because that’s how you’ll be raised
I needed your mothers attention
but then I planted a seed
and you grew into this tree
and your spinning this world of a web around you
mastering the art of love, care and spirituality
Knowing the joy
embracing the stress-free life
the blissful ignorance that is a cliché but never reality when you see
I want you to see, but I will let no harm come your way
I’ll watch you grow, and always protect
I know what to expect from you.
What I didn’t know, was what to expect from me..

Your smile so bright, it lights up my world
my little girl, I now have another thing to live for
my little boy, carry on your fathers legacy
I will not pressure you though.
You’re free to do what you want.
the both of you will be free.
You’ll be guided, you’ll have parents who love you.
You’ll know no real pain
you’ll see the truths, and understand
but you won’t know.
you don’t want to know.
but this is what I didn’t expect from me.

The Gods are probably looking down on me with a scorn
for being jealous of my unborn.
