I went to work the other day, and everyone couldn’t stop talking about how they want to see Alice in Wonderland. (I don’t know if it was because of the childhood memories it brings back, the attraction to Wonderland, or the fact that Johnny Depp was playing Mad Hatter.) Regardless, I wanted to see it because of Wonderland. But there was one things so missing in this versus the book by Lewis Carroll, the obsession with time, the white rabbit and the obsession with time. I won’t ruin it for you, but some of the coolest characters from the book were cut out. Chesrine the Cat remained the same, with his huge grin. But, this version of Alice in wonderland is definitely different than the book.
Did I like it? Not really(For some other reasons too), but Alice in Wonderland does best when it is playful, and light, not dark and heavy. Sometimes, the classics should just be left alone to the imagination of a child, not Hollywood. I think Anjali in Wonderland was better. Dreams, here I come.
