Will They have a mothers day?
the mothers of my country who’ve lost their children before their eyes
witnessed the torture and rape of their daughters
the suffering of their sons
the brutal murders of their husband…a HAPPY mother’s day? will they ever have one?
the mothers who heard “amma..? ” echo in their heads, when her child came home from school..
the mothers who heard “ iyoo ammmaaa!!!!!!!” scream through her head, while they dragged away her daughter by the hair
the mothers who heard “ odungo amma ondungo!!” by her shouting sons and husband who wanted her to run away and escape
will she ever have a ‘happy’ mother’s day…?
Will they have a mother’s day?
the mothers who lost their child in her womb,
who grew love for a baby who was yet to be born
a soul that beat with her heart, and squirmed against her bones
now laid dead in her stomach with the drop of a bomb
a child she lost, before the words “amma” could reach her ears
She WAS a mother! a mother for 10 silent months..
But they took it away from her,
took away the warmth in holding her baby close to her heart
took away the luxury in hearing her baby speak
took away her dreams to see her child play and grow
they took it all away, instilling a pain only a MOTHER would know.
so a MOTHER she was, though she is without child.
MOTHERS day it will be. but HAPPY mother’s day will never be when it was impossible for her to smile
Will they have a mother’s day?
the abandoned children of her womb…
with a mother who promised to always be by their side
who carried their weight and burdens though the tides were strong and high
but now she is no more,
left broken promises shattered by the shore
with a bullet to her head, she left them alone
and those men laughed uncontrollably as they shot their mother to be gone
shivering without her warm embrace
they sat stuck in one place, thinking of her beauty nd grace
their mother’s kindness and love, and her oh so beautiful face
who do they have to celebrate ‘happy’ mother’s day???
Happy, they were for the mother she was
but being robbed of her love and affection
having taken her life
how will they ever let her know on mother’s day
how wonderful she was…?
Mothers clung to the bodies of their dead children
Children screamed and cried…sobbed and grieved over their dead mothers
Mothers wept and regret ever leaving that one second- that one second the bombs exploded
Children lost and deserted, alone and directionless for having left their moms arms
Mothers orphaned from army men who took down her husband daughters n son
Children who just missed her hugs and kisses, sleeping on her lap n eating out of her hand
Will there EVER be a ‘HAPPY’ Mother’s Day for THEM?!?!
