CTYA Volunteer Board of Director Posting

Position:

Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) is currently recruiting individuals to fill in vacancies at General Council positions. The General Council and Executive Committee comprise the Board of CTYA.

The following positions are available within the BOD.


General Councils

Athletics – 2 positions
Human Rights Advocacy – 2 positions
Tamil Nation Development – 2 positions
Summary:

Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) is seeking dynamic individuals who are responsible, enthusiastic and creative to join our Board of Directors. We are seeking for candidates that can utilize their experience, skills, and passion to empower youth to provide new innovative ideas and enhance the delivery of our services.


Responsibilities:

–          Regularly attends monthly board meetings and related meetings.

–          Makes serious commitment to participate actively in developing the council.

–          Volunteers for and willingly accepts assignments and completes them thoroughly and on time.

–          Stays informed about committee matters, prepares themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.

–          Gets to know other committee members and builds a collegial working relationship that contributes to consensus.

–          Is an active participant in the committee’s annual evaluation and planning efforts

Qualifications

–          Must be an Individual member of CTYA

–          In depth understanding of CTYA’s mission and accomplishments

–          Able to plan, manage and execute CTYA’s mission and vision in collaboration with board members, general members and the community

–          A strong dedication to empower youth

–          Strong leadership and communication skills

–          Ability to commit a minimum 3-5 hours per week

–          Team building skills and previous experience in a group atmosphere is an asset

Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) is the largest combination of youth associations and groups nationwide with Tamil heritage, culture and language backgrounds. Together, through the alliance, we strive to educate and empower the youth in order to prepare them as transitional leaders of society. Our vision is to empower Canadian Tamil Youth to become outstanding leaders and citizens in our society.

General Councils

Athletics: The athletics council is tasked with providing Canadian Tamil youth with an avenue to develop their leadership skills through athletics and recreational programs. The aim of this council is to educate through athletics and promote outstanding sportsmanship and build team spirit.

Human Rights Advocacy: The Human Rights Advocacy council aims to build the capacity of Canadian Tamil youth by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to advocate for the protection of human rights in Canada and abroad. This council will strive to not only uphold international law and the Geneva conventions, but also educate our youth and the broader Canadian society about the ongoing plight of Tamil people.

Tamil Nation Development: The Tamil Nation Development council aims to make significant efforts to rebuild and develop the war-stricken nation. This council hopes to implement projects, and provide support to re-establish educational facilities, hospitals, homes and other infrastructures in collaboration with community partners, NGOs and U.N agencies.
