On December 30, 2012, the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) will be hosting its third annual Top Talents Awards Gala. This event will showcase and reward youth who have excelled in their respective fields. This recognition will motivate youth to continue to do extremely well in their fields. Furthermore, these youth will be exceptional role models for the younger generations.
It is the twenty-first century, an era where enslavement, war crimes, lack of free will and human rights should not be issues. But here we are in 2012, and the lack of fairness in these countries is black and white. Just as important as it is to excel in your education, in your music, or dance it is just as important to give back to the community especially coming from an environment where you have been lucky enough to be living in peace.
Youth activism is when the youth voice is engaged in community for social change, and advocates for this change. As a nominee you should be passionate about a cause, or causes occurring in the world today that seek attention. You should consistently be bringing awareness to the cause through different positive and proactive approaches. Nominees should also be able to explain how you have used a positive, proactive and solution-based approach to address one of these issues/causes while making a positive contribution to the community. Youth activism does not stop in youth; you should be able to explain how you expect to continue your activism in the future.
The nomination deadline for Top Talents Awards 2012 is Monday November 12, 2012. If you or someone you know is an outstanding achiever, submit your nomination package as soon as possible. The nomination forms can be downloaded fromhttp://www.ctya.org/toptalents2012.pdf
