The Arts and Culture Council of Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) hosted Thaalam: The Ultimate Gaana Dance Competition, presented by Markham NS Dental and powered by SV Media Network on Saturday July 4, 2015 at Rose Theatre Brampton. You can ask everyone who came – Thaalam 2015 was a mind-blowing show! Emcees Banujan Kanagaratnam, YouTube sensation, Dayan Shan from Europe and our very own Board of Director, Cajaani Velautham rocked the stage with nonstop tummy tickling laughter. On our judges panel we had the beautiful, multi-talented Andrea Jeremiah all the way from Chennai who loved every single performance. To join Andrea on our judges panel we also had Gaana specialist, Jeya Raveendran all the way from the UK. Jeya is a versatile dancer and choreographer who has also worked with the South Indian Cinema on a recent project. Finally, we had our very own multitalented, Ram Agarathi as our final judge.
There were 7 teams that participated: Markham Tamil Birds, Toronto’s Gaana Starz, Mississauga Dandanakkas, York Ghaana Knights, Ottawa Crusaders, Toronto Gaana Squad and Scar. Town Blackjack. The amount of talent, devotion, and energy that each team exhibited made it an absolutely great evening. Their creativity, attention to detail, and choreographies made their dance performances astounding and the amount of support they received from family, friends, and the general community was overwhelming! Each team took over the stage and put on an unforgettable show.
Congratulations to all seven rocking teams of Thaalam 2015 for putting on some sizzling performances! From Toronto to Markham to Scarborough to Missisauga to Ottawa, our talented youth have truly succeeded in bringing Dapankuthu and Gaana to the Brampton Rose Theatre Stage!
