Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) is starting a new project with the goal of engaging seniors and youths to plan community forums about their experiences while accessing services and how service providers can better cater to their needs. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening intergenerational relations between Tamil Youths and Seniors from Scarborough through collaborative work, knowledge sharing and promoting awareness of the social issues and marginalization that the community is facing.
The project will take on a self-directed process led by the participants on community building as they plan, coordinate and execute the forums. Following the forums, we will be compiling a resource guide for service providers that will include the best practices shared by the youths and seniors at the forum. This is a cross cultural and geographic project so we will be engaging the Bangladeshi community in Scarborough, Tamil community in Scarborough, and Punjabi Community in Markham. The project would require a monthly commitment till June 2011.
