Thulirkal: Upcoming Dancer, Banujan Kanagaratnam!

Banujan Kanagaratnam is a passionate and avid dancer. Together, with his friends, they started a dappankuthu dance group, “Brown Shadowz Entertainment” and have danced in various programs in Montreal, Cornwall and Toronto! Their dance group explored many genres of dancing and even incorporated comedy into their acts and collaborated with many other teams. He has participated in dance competitions aswell, including Thaalam 2011 and 2012 and celebrations including CUTSA Kalai Vizha 2013.

This week, we’ve brought you entertainer Babitha Shanmuganadapala! Babitha is a hostess on TVI and engages in various performing, acting, and public speaking parts in the Tamil community. She is currently a third year student, majoring in Nursing (BScN) at York University and has an avid interest in sports and poetry. Babitha has also served at CTYA’s Athletics Board of Director in the past.

The recipient for CTYA’s Engineering Award is a 4th Year Management Engineering student at the University of Waterloo who is very passionate about working within the construction field. His interests first began when he worked at construction sites during high school. Now as a university student, he has utilized his coop work terms at reconstruction sites at Bridgepoint Hospital, and various companies like PCL Constrcutors, McNally International & Coreydale Contracting to better his skills and knowledge.

Renishaki Kamal is an enthusiastic and passionate individual at the University of Waterloo. Born and raised in Canada, she values her ethnicity and cultures and educates those around her about traditions and Tamil history! She’s usually easy to find in crowds as her pottu is her trademark. She has been actively involved in Waterloo, where she served as a First Year Representative to a VP Social Commisioner and also VP – Academic. this coming year, she will serve as President of the Student Union for the Faculty of Arts. She also currently serves as Arts Undergraduate Student Senator at University of Waterloo.

Kabilan has entered the AXE Space Academy for a chance to actually go to space! The two Canadians with the most votes will travel to Florida to received real astronaut space training ,from there, they can compete in AASA’s Global space Camp for a chance to actually go to space!

Jesi is an artistic minded individual with strong interests in music and dance. He followed his interests in music by teaching himself to play the violin, cello, piano, and guitar all driven by the passion he has for music. His strong interest in music led him to be able to learn various styles of dance such as hip hop, contemporary, and ghaana.

Keerthana Pathmanathan began her musical journey at the tender age of 4 and completed her vocal arangetram in 2011. She has had the honor of performing and receiving blessings from world-renowned musicians such as Violin Maestro Sri Lalgudi Jeyaraman, Flute Maestro Dr.V. Ramani, and Miruthangam Maestro Umayalpuram Sivaratnam. Looking up to the National Leader of Tamileelam as her guide, she strongly believes that the arts should be used to enrich, protect and preserve Tamil identity, culture and heritage.
