Six months ago in Sri Lanka, as the last bastion of the Tamil Tigers fell, tens of thousands of civilians who had fled the fighting were detained in refugee camps. Now the Sri Lankan army has given them permission to return home. We went to meet these refugees who have lost everything. |

14 of the 22 members elected for the national assembly of Swiss Council of Eezham Tamils (SCET) on Sunday were 2nd generation youths and 8 more members were elected to form Canton based councils in the elections held across the country, said initial reports from the Tamil Elections Switzerland (TES). Two non-Tamils were among the 22 member national council. The polls were organised by second generation Tamil youth and manned by around 70 non-Tamil election officials in 17 booths across the country. The election was conducted in an exemplary way was the remark of Urs Egger, a Free Democratic Party (FDP) politician, according to TES spokesman Thayatharan Deivendran. 41 candidates contested in the elections for the first country council of Eezham Tamils. |

Disney Channel is all set to reintroduce to the younger generation the ancient Tamil literature Thirukkural with the first ever animated TV serials based on this celebrated text. The series developed as animal fables by Accel Animation Studios, Chennai, is titled ‘Ek Tha Jungle’ and showcases couplets from Thirukkural — one of the most important and celebrated works in Tamil literature written by noted Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar. |

SURESH, a Sri Lankan Tamil, is typical of the asylum seeker who takes a chance on a leaky boat to a distant shore. He is a young adult male, a low priority for resettlement by the UN, frustrated by the protracted resettlement process, and running out of options. At 16, in Sri Lanka, he was abducted by a pro-government militia and forced to train to fight against the Tamil Tigers. He escaped, but was recaptured, tied naked to a tree, tortured and threatened with death if he escaped again. |

The Schulich Accounting Society, in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario held a Case Competition. Many schools participated: York University, Schulich School of Business, University of Toronto (St.George, Scaraboroguh and Missassauga), University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), and Ryerson University. UOIT won Second Place from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO). It’s team members included Pairavi Srikanthan, Nishant Patel, and Zachary Thomas. Congrats! |
