Business is more than just a career, it’s a lifestyle.” – Ryan Nesharatnam The Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance held its first ever Top Talents Awards Gala and Dinner last Friday, June 18. Top Talents was created to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Tamil youth aged 17-30 by recognizing and rewarding talented youth among the community with an award and a $500 bursary. Its aim was to motivate youth to achieve greater success by recognizing and rewarding those youth who have contributed to society and are positive role models for their peers. Today we will look at the profile of the winner of the CTYA Outstanding Leadership Award, Mr. Ryan Nesharatnam. |

Calling the Jaffna born music phenom, Maya Arulpragasam (popularly known as MIA), “the most provocative pop star of her age,” the British Guardian, writing about the singer’s popularity before the release of her third album “Born Free” in July, said that “she speaks out in support of Tamil citizens,” and that “[h]er assertions that the Sri Lankan government is guilty of the genocide of local Tamils have not been going down well. She’s even been accused of supporting the LTTE…” Earlier this month story of her confrontation with New York Times for misrepresenting MIA’s quotes was a popular story on major news media and noted websites that cover music. |

The TTC board is expected next Wednesday to vote to allow three pre-qualified telecommunication companies to bid to provide the service. In addition, the TTC has introduced a new system in which commuters can text a stop number to 898882 (txtttc) and receive an automated response telling them when the next streetcar is scheduled to arrive. |
