[Opinion Piece] Honour Killings

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about honour killings. I think it was because of the murder of 16-year old Aqsa Parvez, who was killed by her brother and father. An honour killing is the murder of a family (usually a female) by one or more fellow (mostly male) family members. The murder is carried out because they believe the victim has brought dishonour upon the family, and murdering is more honourable than letting them live. There is the idea that when you do kill a member who has brought up dishonour, you somehow are able to purify the family’s reputation.

The Big Night, Top Talents Awards Gala and Dinner

Last Friday, June 18th was the big day; it was when we held the FIRST EVER Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance’s Top Talents Awards Gala and Dinner. Top Talents was created to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Tamil youth aged 17-30. Its aim was to motivate youth to achieve greater success by recognizing and rewarding those youth who have contributed to society and are positive role models for their peers.

What's your sleep position got to say about you?

Do you sleep on your back, your stomach, or your side? A recent study by sleep expert Chris Idzikowski, director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service, suggested a correlation between six common sleeping positions and the personality traits of the sleepers themselves. Preferred sleeping positions are seen as a sort of subconscious body language that reflects our inner traits. The study was commissioned by a large hotel group.

I thought this was such a cute story. It’s from the Toronto Star. This couple let 15 years ago,and started dating, but only recently did they realize that they actually met years ago in Disney World as kids. The child in the stroller is actually the present husband of the girl in the front, and this realization wasn’t made until when the couple joined Facebook and posted this picture. It’s such a cute story, miracles do happen. =)

In order to recognize and encourage these youth, on Friday, June 18, 2010, the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) will be holding its very first Top Talents Awards Gala and Dinner. The Top Talents Award Gale will be held at Claireport Place Banquet and Convention Centre, located at 65 Claireport Crescent, Etobicoke, ON.

CTSA playing in the Ontario Soccer League entered the Central Regional East league for the 3rd straight season. With disappointing seasons in the past two year, CTSA changed its game face and started off this season with a blow out winning game by beating Sigma FC 3-0.
