PART 4:

Tears seemed to be her tattoo for the day, it followed her from home and now school. “My dad and mom.” As she chocked on her spit telling her class about what had happened. “A truck hit them this morning and… and” and more tears. The gathered class that was content was now saddened. She tried to stop herself as she didn’t want to see her friends sad that didn’t help lift her level of faith.

“Beep” A p.a system sound had suddenly filled the clustered classroom, as the same sweet voice spoke, “Ms. McGee, can you please send Sasha down to the office please her Uncle’s here to pick her up?” Ms.McGee agreed, as she told the class to settle back down in to their seats she was aided by her peers with her coat, bag and some Kleenex. Ms.McGee sent two other students with her, as they held her by the hand with warmth she made her way to the front foyer to the office where she saw Uncle Stevan, Nana and Tony waiting. They hadn’t been seated either, sharing a similar hasty expression on their faces, except for Tony as he appeared with the same innocence from the morning. Her friends gave a pleasant hug and exchanged a gaze of hope while both of them began to walk themselves back to the classroom; her uncle took hold of her right hand thanking Mrs. Samuel in a rushed tone on the way out of the exit doors. Uncle Stevan’s navy blue Honda was still on start, yet parked on the side of the street right in front of the school. He had quickened the pace once they’d exited as they ran in to the heated car. She was put in to the passenger seat as he firmly put the seat belt for her. Nana and Tony had fastened in the three person back seat of the car. She wasn’t used being in her uncle’s car as she was used to her seat that was on the driver’s side in her dad’s jeep.  Her baffled thoughts darted through her mind. Repetitively.

Everything was moving way to fast for her mind to even construct a simple question. She couldn’t tell where they were as the side window was misty due to the cold wind and the inner warmth. Uncle Stevan had concentrated eyes on the slow moving traffic ahead of him. She was afraid, not knowing what was going on. The car’s speed had progressively increased, and after a short period of time it came to a halt. As Uncle Stevan unbuckled his seat belt along with hers, he opened his door with much force closing it shut behind him. He’d run over to the passenger’s side, opening the door he grabbed hold of her in his arms. Nana had also been out of the car with Tony by her side. She gazed off to familiarize the area she was in. Which then, a big bolded blue letter H that was in a white background box was what caught her attention. It was General Mont’s Hospital. “Mom, Dad!” She started to push off from her uncle’s firm arms making her way down on to the slushy snow pavement. Without looking back she ran in to the automatic slide doors while a lady in her mid 20’s in a wheel chair was exiting with a pack of cigarettes on her lap. She could here her uncle and Nana yelling behind her, but who were they to stop her from seeing her parents. Ignoring them she ran seeking for her parents.

She was lost. All the hallways seemed so similar, with so many doors, which one? That’s when her Aunt Marge; her mother’s older sister sought her marathon through the hospital. Breathless she followed her aunt who held her hand, through the right hallway. She saw her other aunts and uncles sitting in visitor chairs and stools outside a slightly opened door. Nana, Tony and Uncle Stevan had already made their way as they were relieved to see her. Forcefully flicking off her aunts rough skinned hands, she tugged her way as fast as she could to look in to the room. But her Uncle held her back. “They’re sleeping Sasha, you could see them later.” He tried to sound calm and loving. As his hand held her tightly, holding her back from looking through that one door that she’d searched for, it was the door that would reveal the answer to her prayers, “God did you save them?”…
