Shattered – Part 2

Nana quickly reached to hug her tightly. Before her face hit the red soft cotton of Nana’s gown, a gazillion thoughts ran through her head. Her eyes wide open she couldn’t believe what had just pierced through her ears. She felt frozen, her arms, legs and heart. It was like she was dead but alive. Her breath was choppy, missing a pulse. Suddenly she had energy to push away from Nana’s stomach while her mind didn’t want to run to conclusions. As the heavy tears poured from her innocent eyes, and down her soft cheeks, she wiped the runny mucus from her nose with her hand, just as any seven year old would. She ran back up the stairs, powerless she landed face down in room. The holy room, as they would call it. It was where prayers were said. Her face slowly looked up, still shattered. She softly whispered desperately, “Why god? Why? Tell me this is a lie. Tell me please!” Trying to be as quiet as possible because she didn’t want to wake her younger brother, who was five. She peeked from the entrance of the room into his, as she saw him curled up in his navy blue bed cover. Sleeping innocently, not knowing of this terror. Thank god. Her eyes hadn’t stopped the tears, as her mind was striving to tell her nothing happened. She slowly calmed down, as her heart began to beat with its normal pulse.

The confused light bickering of sorrow continued downstairs over the phone. She knew Nana wasn’t lying at that point. But her mind continued to disguise the truth. She looked back up at the pictures of God. As she caught their eyes looking at her, she felt a slight strength in her body. She felt a light spark flow through her blood stream. “God, save them! Please, you know Tony and I don’t have anyone else than Mom and Dad. Please don’t do this to me. I don’t want life without them nor a life hating you”, her voice was hopeful, and commanding. She wiped the extra moisture off her face, pushed her fragile body off the hard floor and slowly made her way out the door. She tuned back once more as she exchanged a faithful look, with an invisible figure that she could see; God.

The cool water rushed through the tap as she washed her  moistened face had helped ease the stress. She pushed aside her worries, as she trapped a pair of guiltless eyes look at her through the little opening of the bathroom door. It was Tony. Her brother knowing, of nothing that had happened. She reached for the door knob with her wet hands turning it with some effort. “Boo!” Creating a light crescent smile on her face she reached for the pink towel that rested on the railing of the staircase. “Wash up, Tony.” Her voice was clearly disguised, as Nana’s voice loomed its way again to her ears. “Sasha, get ready quickly and get your brother ready as well. Come down to eat breakfast.” The shaky, irregular toning of Nana’s voice hadn’t helped the escaping of the happening.

She pushed open her brown charcoal textured closet, as it squealed; her eyes had searched for her favourite orange sweater. Her hands got hold of them, quickly pushing her head and hands through their proper openings; she grabbed a pair of dark blue jeans and put them on. A pair of socks from the day before had been crumpled up and placed on top of the heater. She sat on the cool floor putting them on her cool skinned feet. Gathering her math homework, along with the other sheets that were scattered on her desk, she cared less and stuffed them all in her Winnie the Pooh folder and then into her backpack. Getting hold of her red and black winter jacket on her way back out of her room, she ran back down the same staircase, as it seemed endless. Stuffing a piece of the half cooled omelette that laid lifeless on the plate.
