Event Description from RyeTSA:
“May Tamil Genocide is an event that commemorates the Tamil genocide that was led out by the Sri-Lankan government. In May 2009, thousands of innocent Tamil civilians were massacred and forced to live in concentration camps. Countless number of protests happened worldwide yet, the Sri-Lankan government refused to stop, and continued massacring thousands and thousands of the Tamil population out of existence.
To remember the May Tamil Genocide, RyeTSA is organizing a “May Tamil Genocide Timeline” on Gould Street. The timeline will highlight incidents that occured during the time period of December 2008- May 2009. The timeline will be setup so you can walk through sections of the cafeteria to get a deeper understanding of what happened during that time.
This event will be held on Gould Street on Tuesday May 17th from 3-7pm.”
Ryerson Tamil Student’s Association is a member organization of Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA). This is an initiative they have undertaken by in order to commemorate the Tamil Genocide.
