TORONTO- Ryerson Rams men’s soccer alumnus Janarthan Sadacharalingam is set to take part in the VIVA World Cup 2012 for the Tamil Eelam.
Sadacharalingam, a native of Scarborough, Ont. will join his national team for the tournament which is being held from June 4-9 in the cities of Erbil and Salahaddin, in the autonomous region of Kurdistan. There are three groups that consist of three national teams. This VIVA World Cup will be the first to be held on Asian soil.
Sadacharalingam played four years with the Rams, and helped guide the program to its first-ever OUA Final Four berth in 2010.
Formed by Tamil Eelam Football Association (TEFA), the team is made up of the nation’s budding footballing talents around the world, with a mix of semi-professional and amateur players that compete in leagues in their respective countries.
Tamil Eelam will be fighting it out against eight other teams for a place in the final and a chance to win the prestigious Nelson Mandela Trophy. The final match is set to take place on 9th June.
