Ryerson Rams Press Release: Rams Sadacharalingam wins Top Talents Award

Ryerson soccer player Janarthan Sadacharalingam was recently honoured by the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance (CTYA) at its first ever Top Talents Awards Gala and Dinner on June 18.

A fourth-year midfielder and geographic analysis major, Sadacharalingam received the CTYA Top Talents Soccer Award. The award is presented to an individual who has shown significant achievement in a competitive organized sporting environment while showing commitment, leadership and sportsmanship. Decisions are made based on the applicant’s personal statement and references by a panel of judges. The selection panel is interested in the nominee’s overall success, leadership qualities, determination, and commitment to success.

Sadacharalingam has demonstrated great passion and commitment to soccer. In a ddition to being a member of the Rams men’s soccer team, he has played in Canada’s only professional soccer league (Canadian Soccer League) with the North York Astros. He has competed against national youth soccer teams including the Mexico under 20 National Team, and the Toronto Major League Soccer team.

Sadacharalingam is deeply committed to nurturing a future generation of soccer players, and exhibits strong leadership though his work as a coach for the Scarborough Rangers Soccer Club where he coaches youth soccer. He possesses exceptional character, integrity, and is a model athlete and leader among the Canadian Tamil Youth.

“Jana is of exceptional character, integrity and truly is an ambassador of Tamil culture and leadership. He is a role model to many of the young players on our team,” said Dr.Ivan Joseph, Director of Athletics and men’s soccer coach at Ryerson University.

“Jana’s soccer techniques and his coaching styles are instrumental for our team to move up in the rankings in the Ontario Soccer Leagues. Jana took a team with a very poor winning record at the lower level in the Central East Soccer League (CESL) to the highest level (first division) in the CESL,” said Gana Ramanathan, Registrar, Scarborough Rangers Soccer Club.

Top Talents was created to recognize and celebrate the achievements of Tamil youth aged 17-30 by recognizing and rewarding talented youth among the community with an award and a $500 bursary. Its aim was to motivate youth to achieve greater success by recognizing and rewarding those youth who have contributed to society and are positive role models for their peers.
