I woke up from a very bad dream,
My heart was racing,
My palms were sweating,
My body was shivering,
I was scared at what I saw.
I called for my mom,
But, no sound came out.
I tried to wake up my father,
But he was in a deep slumber.
I decided to pray,
I asked God to take away the images I saw.
But, like a computer virus, they kept reappearing.
I’ve never had a nightmare this scary.
I saw the most horrendous scene.
I saw the tiniest of babies, they looked like dolls.
But these dolls, were all broken, their beautiful smiles could no longer be seen.
Instead of being full of life, they all looked as if they were all born still.
Their faces looked like they had tried calling for their mother for too long.
But, I saw why their mother hadn’t replied.
Their mothers were dead.
I saw their fathers too.
They were alive.
But, they were caged up into barns.
They were prisoners.
Their voices had been taken away.
They could only mourn,
Mourn for the death of their baby.
Mourn for the death of their wife.
Mourn for the punishment of their life.
They only had tears, and that too, was mixed with blood.
Then I saw my best friend.
She and I were inseparable, but there I saw her lay alone.
I use to fight with my mother to be with her.
But today, I did not want to be where she was.
I could not bear to look at her face.
I never thought I would see her deflowered.
Her beautiful body was no longer beautiful,
Some animal ate her body to feed his insatiable hunger.
I wish I were blind to not have seen this.
Being where I was, if I was not killed in the same way as my people,
I was certain the stench of decaying corpses would suffocate me to death.
My heart was racing,
My palms were sweating,
My body was shivering,
I was awake, and I am still awake.
