A message from Montreal Tamil Students:
Our intent is simple. We stand united, as led by the example of the students of Tamil Nadu, to condemn the actions of the Sri Lankan government. We urge the international community to be clear and objective in bringing a lasting resolution for the Tamil people of Sri Lanka. We call for an internationally monitored referendum for the Tamil people to choose their political aspiration.
A passive motion that dismisses the critical situation of Tamils in Sri Lanka, by way of diluted recommendations lacks the resolve that will bring lasting, justified change.
What happened and is continuing is genocide. The Tamil people of Sri Lanka continue to face severe discrimination and are victims of human rights violations in the midst of increased militarization of the North-East, despite the end of the armed conflict. In honour of those lives sacrificed, those lives lost and those who, by the strength of their unwavering will continue to survive the atrocities seen and reported, the students of Montreal are instating a hunger strike on April 11th, 2013. In solidarity with the students of Tamil Nadu and students of various Canadian Universities, we join our voices to speak out loud and clear so that it may be known: students will always stand together and we will always stand for justice.
