Dameion Royes – CEO, Big It Up, The Business of Retail
Known as the Philosopher Hat King, Big It Up grew out of the streets of Toronto, Canada and came into being in the summer of 1996, as the result of a unique collaboration. Dameion strived to ensure that The Big It Up’s team represented Toronto’s multiculturalism- so he gathered people from every corner of the globe — Africa, Asia, India, the Caribbean, the Philippines, Europe — all working under the same roof, working the way people are supposed to; namely, together. Black, white, young and old, male and female, the differences make all the difference and no difference at all.
Mentors
Kevin Hood – Mama Hood Catering/Roots Redemption DJing, The Business of Food Catering and Music
Roots Redemption has been offering disc jockey services since 2002, entertaining guests across Canada and the United States. Roots Redemption currently have a club night at Revival Club in Toronto called ReUnion. In 2009, going beyond his DJ skills, Kevin and his mom, Bernadette, decided to start up a catering business specializing in Caribbean cuisine. Mama Hood has catered events for Lost Lyrics and for the Toronto Public Library.
Krystal Miller – DYMZ Styling and House of K Miller, The Business of Fashion Design
Krystal started her House of K Miller collection after finishing the Fashion Arts program at Seneca College. The collection includes men’s and women’s designs that range from the business sexy to casual denim. The look has a fresh and simplistic style, with few one of a kind designs influenced by her work as being the head stylist to DYMZ Styling Inc.; Toronto based styling and creative direction corporation that is setting trends through many avenues. People can see her work in Urbanology Magazine and at DYMZ website. Krystal’s work includes creating two full seasons of Men’s Sportswear for Champion Canada.
Rob Stefaniuk – Writer/Director/Producer, The Business of Film-making
Rob Stefaniuk has worked in numerous television shows as an actor, appearing as both guest lead and series regular. Rob Stefaniuk wrote, directed, stars in, and wrote some of the music for Phil the Alien, his feature directorial debut. Phil debuted at the Toronto International Film festival 2004 where it received the “Spirit of Film Honor”. His latest movie, Suck, is a vampire rock and roll comedy premiered at TIFF 2009 and is scheduled for release in the fall of 2010. Most recently, Suck won the Cadillac People’s choice award at Whistler Film Fest. Stefaniuk wrote the screenplay, seven of the eleven original songs, directed and starred in the film.
Newton Asare II – Money Minds & Common Cents (MC²), The Business of a Financial Educator and Opportunist
Newton has a mission to inspire a new generation of individuals whom possess the capacity to build wealth through financial literacy and personal growth. Newton’s Money Minds & Common Cents (MC²) program targets young adults and provides them with the fundamental tools to achieve success. He also volunteers his time working on community initiatives such as, The Youth Challenge Fund (YCF), Success Power Opportunity and Teamwork (The S.P.O.T.), Helping Youth Pursue Education (HYPE) and the 1st Generation project at Centennial College. Currently, Newton writes for Urbanology Magazine as well as The Community Online Resources.
