Black July is a very significant month for Tamils of Tamil Eelam. It is where we commemorate those who met their demise at the wrath of the Sinhalese majority in July of 1983. It is the date in which there was a reported 400-3000 Tamils were killed while thousands of homes were destroyed. Sinhalese as well as many government workers were known to be hostile to Tamils in the area from July24th until the 30th when the violence finally began to alleviate.
