Twenty years from now, when you think back to today, often times you will not remember what you wore, what you had for breakfast, or what time you went to sleep. It won’t matter.
But what will matter, is how you felt, or how you made someone feel. That’s why it’s wise to spend time and money on creating experiences. Your new expensive sweater will not leave the same memory as say a trip with your family or friends will. If you made a positive difference to someone’s life that way, you may remember that. When you do good to others, it is not only beneficial to the person whom you are helping, but it makes you feel good.
Memories of experiences are more beneficial towards enhancing your overall well-being than a material purchase. People are more content when they are among the company of friends and family; you laugh more, and you are included in a network and you feel better.
Next time you decide to pass off a get-together, remember that it is experiences in life that you will remember and will contribute most to your happiness. Go ahead. Do something that you will remember as a positive experience 20 years from now. Because, that’s what really matters.
