Toronto Multicultural Calendar Blog recently covered the Ponagl Festival Reception that took place at Toronto City Hall last month. Among the events, presentations performances and festivities that took place, CTYA’s Arts and Culture Director, Geanany Rasanathan gave a speech which was covered by the Toronto Multicultural Calendar Blog.
Excerpt (Toronto Multicultural Calendar Blog, Post 61) “… a young Tamil woman from the Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance gave an excellent explanation of the 2500 year old festival. It’s a thanksgiving to the sun and to nature. It’s four days of family reunions, exchanging of gifts, and wearing new clothing. The organizers hope January 13-15 will officially be designated Tamil Heritage Days in the future.”
