What do we do three times a day (or more) without fail? That’s right, eat. It’s important to eat right, because the consequences of not eating properly are too great, for both your health and your body. Muscle loss, weak bones, wrinkles, sagging – these are just not so sexy. But, if you eat a diet rich in protein, complex carbs, fruit, veggies, nuts, beans (sadly, does not include milk chocolate) then you’ll be doing yourself a favour, and 10 years from now you’ll thank yourself for looking good as a result. So a few guidelines:
1) Eat plenty of green leafty vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, spinach) and dark fruits (plums, berries); these are loaded up with antioxidants that help fight the aging process and help repair cells
2) Eat lean meats, salads, chicken and fish. These are filled with omega 3 and omega 6 (essential fatty acids) that help protect your heart and skin, and help ward of age related illnesses.
3) Eat foods rich in vitimins A, C and E; they help maintain the skin structure. (Apricots, eggs, tomatoes, almonds, avocadoes, and oatmeal)
4) Eat protein everyday. About 25% of your daily intake of food should come from protein, protein helps build bones, healthy teeth, hair and nails. It’s also important for healthy blood, and maintaining good blood sugar levels. (Chicken, fish, soya, milk and eggs are good sources)
5) Eat fat everyday. Some fats are good for you, and you need unsaturated fat for cell growth, fertility, healthy skin, healthy bones, and for your horomones. (Good sources are eggs, oily fish, nuts, seeds) If you lack unsaturated fats, it shows on your skin, you may have dry skin and mood swings – and who wants that?
So eat away! Just eat right. =)
