On December 30, 2010, a group of CTYA volunteers and members volunteered their time at the Daily Bread Food Bank. This initiative was organized by CTYA’s Human Rights Advocacy Council. The Daily Bread Food Bank aims to reduce hunger within Toronto communities by providing neighbourhood food bank hampers for people to access food and meal programs. They are the largest provider of emergency food relief in the GTA. Daily Bread member agencies see a monthly average of 73,000 client visits.
During this holiday time, the Human Rights Advocacy Council felt it was important to give back to the community, and assist those in need. Volunteers expressed that they enjoyed making a difference in the community. Part of CTYA’s mission is to facilitate the participation of Tamil youth in the broader Canadian society with the aim of building a stronger, greener and fairer country.
