Art or Music? Art

Three things you would take on Desert Island? Pencil, paper and a compass.

Favourite Painting Medium? Water colour

If you were invisible where would you go? Tamileelam’s isolated and banned Vanni camps

Short Hair or Long Hair? Love long hair, but my hair is too heavy and too curly so I have to make it short.

Early Riser or Night Hawk? It all depends when I paint. Early riser if I have to paint, and night hawk if I am kept up painting. Some days I sleep at 4 am painting. So everything depends on my painting. My work is my life.

Lavaniya: My name is Lavaniya Rajah. I have just completed Grade 10 at Lester B. Pearson Collegiate. I am a member of TYO Canada and I am a member of the New Democratic Party. I like to see myself as someone who is well organized and takes every single detail in consideration no matter what it maybe. I am perfectionist and I hope to inspire youth and others throughout my life time for the betterment of our society.

Thulirkal : Soccer Superstar, Menan Nagulendran!

This week, we’ve brought you Menan Nagulendran!

Menan Nagulendran is known for scoring the historic first goal for Tamileelam, and the subsequent 2 goals in the debut of Tamileelam F.A. in Kurdistan last year! After his hat-trick, Menan dedicated his hat-trick to: First goal four our Maaveerar, second goal to victims of genocide & oppression and third to all the supporters!! Just after the match, Menon said, “I am really humbled by all the messages of support and congratulations. This is has always been not about us the players, or the team, but about our nation. I feel so proud to have been given the opportunity to play for my nation, and I dedicate my hat-trick to them. The first goal to the great Maaveerar of our nation, the second to all the Tamils who have been victims of genocide and are still oppressed today, the last goal to all the fans of the Tamil Eelam football team.”

This month, Menan also had the chance to participate in the Tynwald Hill International Football Tournament. Let’s hear from Menan!

This week, we’ve brought you Arun Vigneswararajah!

Arun Vigneswararajah is currently completing his post-secondary education at the University of Toronto after transferring from Coker College, a school located in South Carolina. At the age of 18, Arun had the opportunity to attend school in the US and become the first Eelam Tamil to play soccer in the NCAA after receiving a scholarship. After transferring to U of T in September 2012, he continues to show his passion for soccer by playing on various teams such as Caledon FC in OSL and local Tamil team Jarvis FC. His passion for the game is reflected on and off the field throughout his years of playing and he is a strong supporter of the Eelam movement.

Since Shayanika was just a child, she bravely wanted to try her hand at everything. She sang and played instruments, she drew, she wrote poems, she made clay figures. Where Shayanika lacked skill, she compensated with hard work, which can still be said about her today.

Shavumiyaa Chandrabalan was the recipient of the Top Talents 2012 Visual Arts Award. The Visual Arts Award is given to an individual who strives in building our community through outstanding ability and achievements in Art. As a student who’s in her final year at York University in the Business Administrative program, painting and drawing has been a leeway for her to relax. Shavumiyaa’s passion for art has been very well expressed through many different projects that have been completed to be showcased at countless community occasions.

Thulirkal: Shining in the Spotlight, Luksimi Sivaneswaralingam!

Luksimi Sivaneswaralingam is an active singer in Toronto. She is currently completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto (St. George Campus) in Music – Voice Performance. Luksimi has done numerous performances with the band at various community events in Toronto and Montreal, television recordings, and tv/radio interviews.

Not only is Saiesan a singer, but he also plays the guitar, keyboard, saxophone, flute and harmonica. In his singing and playing, Saiesan is able to catch on to notes, lyrics, and music very quickly and retain the most minute details for recall at another time.
