Written by: Rathi Kamalanathan (University of Toronto) In a recent ad released by the Conservative Party of Canada, the Conservatives makes reference to the boatload of Tamil refugees who made their way to Canada last year, fleeing persecution in Sri-Lanka. The message being sent through this ad is that refugee claimants are “criminals.” The migrants who were on this ship that was featured in this ad were travelling at sea for three months, living in cramped and inadequate living conditions. They put their lives at risk to embark on this risky journey to a safer place after suffering tremendously through the hardships in Sri Lanka. |

On Thursday March 24th a precious life was lost. As Karthiha was on her way home from the library only two minutes away from her home, she was struck by a car while crossing the intersection at Sheppard Avenue at Murison Boulevard, near Neilson Road. On behalf of CTYA, we send out deepest condolences to the family and friends of Karthiha. |

This past Saturday, on March 12th 2011 CTYA’s Athletic Council held it’s second of 3 three sessions relating to women’s sports training. The session focused on soccer where participants were given the opportunity to learn the foundations of the sport. |
