RFT: Iron in Heels - Truth and Lies of Waistlines

So, what are women all over the world turning to in order to create this nearly “invisible” waistline? Waist trainers and waist clinches. These are corsets worn for up to twelve hours at a time to compress ones’ waist. This body modification has gained a lot of attention from fitness models, celebrities and your everyday gym goers; each with their own opinion on whether this route is the way to go or not. Initially, I was just skeptical of the product, but after doing some research, I can say that I am not a fan of what these waist trainers or waist clinchers are intended to do nor would I ever advise someone to go that route.

RFT: Iron in Heels - Let's Get Started!

Why do I even bother putting myself through this? Forcing myself to finally leave the change room, my mind narrows in on the path leading to the least intimidating machine next to the fragile, old woman, blurring out all that surround it. There I stand, fidgeting with the machine that this old woman used with ease, but I finally get it started! For the next hour, I speed walk on this treadmill, just analyzing the environment of the gym. Tomorrow I will find myself on this same machine – it’s now, the one thing in this place that I can use without the fear of looking clueless.

This was once something, I too, had felt when I started going to the gym. Let it be known, the fear that comes with entering a new environment is inevitable. However, that fear can be diminished by speaking to someone that frequents a gym or educating yourself with what a gym has to offer, its equipment and how it impacts your body. This can help mentally prepare those first timers and make your first experience one that doesn’t turn you off of your initial goals.

Professional Sports: A Dream in the Making

Growing up in a household full of males, sports has become a mutual source of entertainment for my family and I. We share a love for our home teams, whether it is the Blue Jays, Maple Leafs, Raptors, etc., the outcome of every game instigates a wave of emotions. Although true, a bold line is drawn there. The love for our country’s athletes remains as mere admiration. When the act of admiring transitions into the desire to follow, it becomes a problem. A child’s dream of becoming a professional athlete inevitably plants fear in the minds of Tamil parents, or a majority of immigrant parents for that matter. They immediately associate the profession with high risk, as a result becoming tangled in a huge web of uncertainty.

Canadian Sports: The source of unity in a melting pot nation

Equality is the goal for a diverse nation such as Canada, however religious, political and cultural differences are undoubtedly present. Unity is achieved when individuals are able to put such differences aside in order to merge for the purpose of a mutual interest. This is the effect that sports has on Canada; facilitating unity and establishing a common ground upon which sports fans can join to support their nation’s teams. The love for sports allows for the emergence of togetherness amongst Canadians.
