An Unforgettable Journey: Life of Pi

Written By: Senthamil Stefi

Life of Pi was really interesting. It made you think about society in a different light… specifically with respect to the upbringing of a child in a strict cultural environment. Growing up we are taught to believe certain things but if we don’t question the teachings nor test it how will we ever know the validity of the lessons?

Religion…What is religion? Aren’t we all praying to the same God? So why believe in one religion and not others? Every religion has its own set of rituals but does it not all teach the same core moral principles? Is it really best to believe in no religion than to believe in multiple religions?

Mr. Parker…The tiger himself honestly reminded me of my four-legged hunting cross breed little brother (Ludwig). Though they have their own set of instincts, they have a beautiful pure soul. You just have to come to understand them. Honestly speaking I love Ludwig more than anyone and anything. They have a sense of loyalty and purity that humans can only ever imagine to ever possess.

Above all I think the most valuable lesson that was taught in this movie was that you should never judge a book by its cover nor should you let others decide judgement on behalf of yourself.

I want to leave you with some food for thought though… do you think that the entire time when Pi was at sea.. was actually his mind playing games with him in order to cope with the loss of his family…?
