Press Release: Team Tamileelam Takes the Stage!

Global Tamil Youth League
The Global Tamil Youth League is proud to announce the participation of Team Tamileelam in the 2012 VIVA World Cup. VIVA World Cup, an international soccer tournament, will be taking place this June in the in Erbil, Kurdistan (Northern Iraq). This tournament hosted and organized by the Nouvelle Fédération-Board (N.F. Board) for non-FIFA affiliated teams.
Tamil athletes have demonstrated excellence and great talent in soccer around the world, and through this tournament, Tamil soccer players will gain recognition as athletes from Tamileelam. Representing one’s nation in any tournament is an honour that comes with great pride, belief and respect, all participating athletes have expressed much excitement and pride in being part of Team Tamileelam.
A total of 8 teams will be competing for the Nelson Mandela Trophy: Tamileelam, Chipre del Norte, Darfur, Kurdistan, Occitantia, Provenza, Raetia, Western Sahara and Zanzibar. The teams will all compete fiercely for the Nelson Mandela Trophy, named after the former South African President Nelson Mandela, in honour of his perseverance and commitment to achieving freedom for his people.
This is a historic milestone for Tamils around the world. International sporting events are not only competitive games that captivate thousands, but they play an invaluable role in shaping a country’s identity and pride. Team Tamileelam is a beginning of a new era of recognition for Tamils of their culture and identity by the international community. Being able to proudly wave the Flag of Tamileelam and participate for your homeland is an honour, and one the entire Tamil community can be proud of.
