Remember those collages we had to make in elementary school? Well, there’s a better way now.
What looks like the simplest idea is often the easiest to sell.
“I think the magic with basically anything in the tech sector is to hide the complexity as much as you can,” said Vincent Cheung, owner of Shape Collage Inc., a software program that arranges hundreds of photos into custom shapes in seconds.
“When you hide the complexity and make it simple and approachable, that is when you start hitting mainstream.”
Even though his company was only founded last March, the software has been downloaded more than one million times and has been translated into 18 languages.
Cheung was recently named 2010 Student Entrepreneur Ontario Champion by Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship (ACE), a national charitable organization. Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce sponsors the national competition.
The provincial competition is in March with nationals scheduled for May. The winner will represent Canada at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in November. Canada took top prize last year.
