Canadian Tamil Youth Alliance’s Athletic Committee (CTYA) successfully held its third annual Tamileelam Challenge Cup Cricket Tournament in partnership with Markham Toronto Cricket League. This Challenge Cup Cricket Tournament took place Saturday July 30th, Sunday July 31stand semifinals and finals took place Monday August 1.
Semifinals games were between the Blazers C.C. and EelamBoyz C.C., and the Jaguars C.C. and Black Cats C.C.. The Blazers C.C. and Blackcats C.C. then progressed to the finals. This year’s winners of Tamileelam Challenge Cup Cricket are the Blazers C.C.
Awards for best players will be given named after the national symbols of Tamileelam: Vaahai being the national Tree; Siruththai being the national animal; and Chenbagam being the national bird. These awards will be given at the Markham Toronto Cricket League’s Award Ceremony.
CTYA held its first Tamileelam Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament in early August 2009. It was a great success, and with the support of the Canadian Tamil community, CTYA has subsequently hosted many other sports tournaments aimed at encouraging Tamil youth in sports, including various other sports tournaments and women’s sports training.

Athletics Council of CTYA seeks to provide Canadian Tamil youth with an avenue to develop their leadership skills through athletics and recreational programs. The aim of this council is to educate through athletics, promote outstanding sportsmanship and build team spirit.
