Book Review: ‘Things Fall Apart’ by Chinua Achebe

Book Review By: Mithilah Mahendran

The first book I ever read under the category of distinguished literature. I was thrilled to find a story revolving around colonialism that was simple yet layered. The story is of a tribe in Africa becoming exposed to the new European presence. The book gives you a feel of how our own ancestors may have felt when they saw the first colonizers walking in. Achebe is the sole reason I  specifically search for books revolving around colonialism, immigration, South Asia and Africa. This book is a quick course on early European colonialism without even knowing it; hence a great book to hand to any teenager to get them exposed to that era.
